18U AAA D-Backs to Compete in College Prep Division This Year

The 2016 West Kelowna D-Backs 18U AAA Team will be competing in the BC Baseball College Prep Division for the 2016 Season. The decision to tier the 18U AAA League this year was made by the BC Baseball High Performance Committee and 18U Division Directors with input from associations who competed in 2015.

Some coaches noted that there was a lack of parity in terms of competition among teams at the 18U AAA level. With the league having 17+ teams looking to play AAA Baseball in the 2016 season, there was an opportunity to look at re-adjusting the league format. Several ideas were put forth but at the end of discussions, it was decided to tier the 18U AAA League into 2 Divisions.

Teams wishing to play in the College Prep (Upper) Division which consists of 8 teams were required to apply to the BC Baseball 18U Director making their desire known. These applications were reviewed and teams with solid records in 2015 and who were looking to develop some of their players to go on to play college baseball were given priority.

West Kelowna’s application into the College Prep Division was successful. The College Prep Division will consist of the following teams:

Ridge Meadows
Vancouver Mounties
West Kelowna

The returning 18U AAA Players have been practicing since January and look forward to the additional competition ahead of them this season. The D-Backs will hold evaluations in early march to fill in the remaining roster spots.

The D-Backs will open their season April 9th with a trip to the lower mainland. The full schedule is expected in the near future.
