Boucherie Field Lighting Project Completed

On Thursday, November 30th, the long-awaited Boucherie light project finally came to a conclusion with a test light-up. WKMBA President Tom Katelnikoff joined Mark Packer of Musco Lighting and Aaron Mekkle & Kalen Martens of Houle Electric to power up the lights and conduct the final testing.

The lights were a much-needed improvement to the Boucherie Main Diamond, a field shared between both the 15U (Bantam) & 18U (Midget) Divisions. With the additional after-dark hours now made available, WKMBA is now able to accommodate an additional late game or practice every night, as well as providing the players a chance to live their dreams of playing under the lights.

The state-of-the-art 8-pole system was built to a premium industry standard, surpassing the required NCAA Tournament specifications. The lighting system also features a 6-pole underlighting system, which not only illuminates the top of the baseball, but also the bottom sides, making vision for both the fielding and hitting sides clearer in low-light scenarios. Keeping the location of the field in mind, the lighting system was also optimized to reduce it’s effects on the nearby East Boundary Rd, reducing any effects that the lighting system posed to drivers & residents on the nearby roadway.

The project was funded in-part through a generous grant from the Federal Government (Canada150 Grant) as well as from the City of West Kelowna.

WKMBA is grateful to the City of West Kelowna & Government of Canada for making this project possible, the lights will benefit WKMBA Players for years to come.
